Can you tell us all about your business and what inspired you to start it?
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I had my son and took maternity leave, I found that although motherhood was an incredible journey, I truly missed teaching. I missed the classroom and that essential part of my identity. I wanted to stay connected to my vocation while home with my little one, and that is how The Teacher Brand was born.
How do you come up with ideas for new products?
When brainstorming new products, I love collaborating with The Teacher Brand community to find out what they feel they truly need. I also look for solutions to things I personally want or need in my own classroom and try to bring those ideas to life. Additionally, I enjoy supporting other small businesses and illustrators on Etsy by using their drawings or laser files to create unique products.
What is your favorite product that you have created?
The range I am most proud of is our collection of stamps and stickers designed specifically for Special Needs teachers and their students. This is an industry first within the Australian market, and I am passionate about getting these tools into the hands of more Education Support teachers.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
I love connecting with other teachers and creating products that make their daily lives easier and more inspired.
What do you think is the most challenging part of running a business?
Staying ahead of the game is definitely the biggest challenge. I work full-time and have a young son, so keeping up with new trends can be difficult. Time is a very limited resource, even on my best days!

How did you discover Design Pixie?
I discovered Design Pixie on Etsy while I was looking for a way to establish a website for my business. I wanted my brand to look professional and beautiful, and Vanessa created the perfect blend of both!
What specific products of ours have you used for your business branding?

Be consistent. There will always be ups and downs, so try to embrace them all as learning opportunities. Most importantly, connect with your community - they need to trust you first and foremost.
How important do you think design is in growing a small business?
It’s essential! Professional design makes your brand look organized and well-represented. It builds a sense of trust, showing customers that you are a legitimate brand they can feel confident supporting.
